My savings account
About 6 months ago, I decided to get a second savings account. I was going to use this savings account as my savings account meant for advancing my career. After about 2 months of having the savings account, I noticed I was getting hit with a $5 fee every month. I found out it was because I didn't have the minimum amount in my account. As a matter of principal of not agreeing with all the fees that banks charge, I decided to close my account. The first thing I did was log into my online banking and transfer all my savings into my checking account. Then I procrastinated going down to my local branch until they charged me another fee. When I told them that I would like to close my account, I was told they would reverse the last charge and close my account the next day. I was satisfied with the outcome and was fine with eating the first fee. I checked my account a few days later and noticed that the account still wasn't closed. It took me a couple of months to find time to go back and close the account (this weekend).
When I asked to close my account and was willing to pay the negative balance off, I was told that my account had been forcibly closed. I then found out that they did a charge off of the "debt". At this point, I was outraged. I have plenty of money in my checking account with the same bank and rather than charging off the debt, they could have transferred the remaining amount from my checking into my savings and then closed the account. Now I have to go to the parent branch on my lunch hour to see if they can remove the charge off off my credit report. I can tell you this for sure, if they don't remove it from my credit report, I'll be closing my remaining checking account.
I do take responsibility for procrastinating about this account. However, I still believe that our big banks charge way too many fees and make me not want to put my money in there banks.
